The strengths and weakness of Chiru

The strength and weakness of Chiranjeevi is Allu Aravind. Had Aravind not there Chiru could have been just another actor, not only people in the industry even Chu himself know of this. Some industry say ‘’Chiru is O.K but it is Aravind who is a ruthless business man and never cares for If some one is in trouble and Chiru will not help without consent of Aravind ’’ that is weakness. As long as in the film industry is concerned the hero’ near and dear taking precedence in each and every issue is not objectionable to anybody, for it is private domain, but once you are a public representative you have to keep them at distance so as to avoid allegations of nepotism. It may be possible in case of Chandrababu who never allowed any of his relatives have a word in the party affaires, but Chiru cannot run the show even a day without Aravind. Already a lot of voices are rising within PRP over the role of Aravind and their pitch may rise once the elections come nearer.
Now Chiru has to tread on a balanced path to avoid this criticism by limiting the role of Aravind to fund mobilization of party or else Chiru well end up as good actor but spineless politician.

Need to Rethink for Prajarajyam Party (PRP)

Of late a sense of uneasiness is prevailing in Chiru party cadre. After big bang launching of the party name and flag at mammoth mobilization in abode of Lord Venkateswara, things are not moving in the right direction. Though local media to national media provided huge coverage to the public meeting it helped only getting some of the national leaders- i.e. Amarsingh, BJP and a couple of leaders from other parts of the nation- close to Chiru, but the ground level workers and local political pundits yet to recognize him as a formidable political force who can change the fortunes of the ruling party.
The appointment of two intellectuals from two different ideological backgrounds to the official representatives’ posts has not welcomed much by the cadre as both of them are very restrained and reserved in their presentation. In the present day politics the representatives should be talkative and tough not mild and precise.
For an observer the whole party appears that some people are showcasing Chiru to push their agenda and he himself is not running the show. One day they say only honest people will be accorded top priority but the very next moment we find Chiru welcoming some factionists, corrupt politicians and betrayers into the party. No doubt some of the new comers of the party have spotless character and committed service mind but if the present trend of allowing unruly elements continues, Chiru cannot boast of himself as a leader with a different and going to end up as just another politician in the state.
Whenever some one throws a challenge the PRP leaders should give a fitting reply in aggressive style rather than maintaining silence over the issue.
Majority of the party cadre are still in their thirties and they expect their leader be combative. Chiru should keep this mind.

People should decide my future plan: Chiranjeevi

HYDERABAD: Seeking to reach out to the people with his message of social justice, actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi said on Thursday he would act as a bridge for the people to achieve the goal of true democracy. "You should decide what my future plan of action is. You decide what you want me to do for you. We (the masses) should be our own rulers. I will be a bridge in this process," he said. Chiranjeevi was speaking at a function where a former TDP legislator from East Godavari district T Trimurthulu joined the actor's Praja Rajyam Party. Trimurthulu is the latest entrant into Praja Rajyam in continuing political migrations from other parties. The kin of two senior TDP leaders joined the party on Wednesday. TDP MP from Warangal E Dayakar Rao's brother E Pradeep Rao and senior legislator and Politburo member Y Ramakrishnudu's brother Y Venkat Rao joined Praja Rajyam in the presence of Chiranjeevi.

Chiranjeevi-Amar Singh meet raises questions

The Samajwadi party general secretary Amar Singh [Images] along with two actresses-MPs Jaya Prada and Jaya Bachchan came to the office of the Telugu megastar-turned politician Chiranjeevi [Images] in Hyderabad on Sunday evening, spent close to one hour and went back leaving a lot of questions unanswered. Though Amar Singh left no stone unturned to give the impression that the meeting was a courtesy call by friends and well wishers to congratulate Chiranjeevi on his entry in to politics, the lingering feeling in the political circles was that there was more to the meeting than meets the eye. "We came here to extend our good wishes to Chiranjeevi on his move to come in to politics. Good people who have a spirit to serve the society should come and join politics. Otherwise politics will remain corrupt and filthy," Amar Singh said after meeting the actor.
Singh insisted that he along with Jaya Prada and Jaya Bachchan came to meet Chiranjeevi because he was a good friend of the entire Bachchan family. "if Amitabhji was not out of the country, he would have also come along with Abhishek and Aishwarya [Images]," Amar Singh said.
He pointed out that Jaya Prada played the role of heroine with Chiranjeevi in many Telugu films and Jaya Bachchan was also a good friend of Chiranjeevi. "They came to extend their good wishes as a colleague of film industry. We want all our friends to do well in whatever they do," he said.
But the crucial issue of possible electoral tie up between Samajwadi Party and Chranjeevi's Praja Rajyam party remained unanswered as Amar Singh evaded them completely. When asked how SP could join hands with the anti-Congress Chiranjeevi in Andhra while they were allies in Uttar Pradesh [Images], Amar Singh quipped, "I am not a member of Congress". He insisted that the talks between Congress and SP for an alliance were restricted to Uttar Pradesh and they were still not completed. "We want that we should have an alliance but it still not sure whether will finally have it or not", he said. At the same time Amar Singh said that his party will never support "communal forces like BJP" and help them to come to power. "That is why we have supported the Congress party on Nuclear deal in Parliament. The deal does not belong to any one party but to the entire country," he said.
Prakala Prabhakar, official spokesperson of the Praja Rajyam party also insisted that the meeting was a mere courtesy call. "We are not trying to hide any thing," he said adding that the SP leaders had come neither to seek something nor to give any thing.
"When people are with us, where is the need for an alliance with other parties," he said when asked whether SP was trying to forge an alliance with his party. But the speculations persists that a person like Amar Singh does not take the trouble of coming all the way to Hyderabad for mere sweet talk when the political tempers are running so high in Andhra Pradesh. "The SP is either angling for space in Andhra Pradesh politics or using the Chiranjeevi's card to turn up the heat on the Congress party," a political observer said.

Waiting for a real hit

Hyderabad, September 21 Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam party does not seem to be growing out of its teething problems. Enthusiastic supporters, political leaders and retired Government servants who want to join the party are turning around, disappointed and disillusioned by the lack of structure and leadership in the party.
To top it, Chiranjeevi, as a politician, suffered a major jolt when he failed to get his panel elected on his homeground — the Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) — for which elections were held last week. This is just one-and-a-half months after his mentor and brother-in-law, film producer Allu Aravind, also lost the election for the president’s post of the Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce, held on July 27.
Politics and Telugu film industry have been closely linked long before legendary actor N T Rama Rao launched the Telugu Desam Party, and elections to film industry bodies and unions are closely contested by rival film stars or their panels supported by political parties.
Elections are a matter of prestige and power at MAA, the representative arm of the powerful Telugu film industry also known as Tollywood, and are held every two years. Thus, it is significant that Chiranjeevi’s panel was totally routed in the elections. Not only did the panel supported by Chiranjeevi lose the vital post of president, none of the panel members were elected to the MAA executive body. It is a loss of face for the actor as his younger brother, Nagendra Babu, held the post of president in the last term.
Veteran actor-turned-producer Murali Mohan, supported by the Telugu Desam Party, was elected president of the MAA defeating actor Vijay Chandra who was supported by Chiranjeevi. Murali Mohan polled 244 votes while Vijay Chandra got 116 votes. Actress Jayasudha was unanimously elected vice-president.
“There was a growing feeling in the industry that Chiranjeevi and his family only nurtured themselves and did not care to work for the benefit of the large workforce of the Telugu film industry. In contrast, an equally popular actor like N T Rama Rao had the total support of the industry — because of him, the industry benefited tremendously,” says a member who got elected to the MAA executive. “In fact, Chiranjeevi’s brother Nagendra Babu, who was president for the last two years, was aware of the growing unpopularity of the family in the industry,” he observes.
The elections to both the MAA and the AP Film Chamber of...

-->Commerce also brought to the fore the intense rivalry between the various caste factions in the industry. The Kapu community-dominated Chiranjeevi panels were outwitted by the Kamma caste and other caste factions.
Since he launched his party on August 26, Chiranjeevi has experienced a string of disappointments. Except for a few discards from other parties, no leader of stature has joined his party so far in spite of a call given by the megastar. The party was, however, upbeat about T Chandra Sekhar, Maharashtra-cadre IAS officer who resigned as chief of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority to join Chiranjeevi.
After meeting Chiranjeevi, the ex-IAS officer who hails from Guntur district, said that he felt the film star was committed to social justice and the welfare of poor and therefore, he wanted to join him

Chiranjeevi's reel pairs spit venom offscreen

They romanced Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi in reel life but have been spitting venom on him in real life.Actresses-turned-politicians Vijaya Santhi and R K Roja are now apparently leaving no occasion to lash out at Chiranjeevi, who launched his Praja Rajyam Party last month.Vijaya Santhi paired with Chiranjeevi in as many as 18 films, the maximum any heroine has done with him, while Roja starred in two films opposite the Telugu megastar. After having sailed with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for many years, Vijaya Santhi floated her own political outfit Talli Telangana Party a couple of years ago espousing the separate statehood cause.Roja is now heading Telugu Mahila, the women's wing of Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Both have been taking a dig at Chiranjeevi ever since he jumped into active politics by launching his own party."How can one expect a man, who has done nothing for the welfare of the film industry workers, to work for the welfare of the people at large," wondered Roja, firing her first salvo at Chiranjeevi soon after he formally made his political entry.Vijaya Santhi, on the other hand, took a dig at the megastar for failing to come out with a clear stand on the Telangana issue. "He is trying to hoodwink people on Telangana," she had said. After Chiranjeevi undertook his first mass contact programme by meeting handloom weavers in Sircilla on Saturday, Roja unleashed a fresh round of attack on the former by dubbing the trip as a mere vote-garnering exercise

Chiranjeevi visit weavers' family in Telangana

Hyderabad, Sep 20 (PTI) In his first public contact after entering politics, Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi on Saturday visited Siricilla town in Telangana region and met families of weavers who had committed suicide due to financial distress.
A large number of people gathered to have a glimpse of their hero as Chiranjeevi's convoy entered the backward town in Karimnagar district the hub of handloom industry, about 140 kms from here, amid tight security.
After a brief visit to the textile park, he called on three families whose bread-earners had committed suicide due to mounting to debts.
The actor was visibly moved as families poured out their woes and narrated how the successive governments have failed to address their grievances.
Clad in white shirt and black trousers, he sat on the floor along with the poor weavers and enquired about their problems.
The weavers told him they were fast losing hope in the absence of credit and marketing facilities and employment opportunities.
Later addressing a gathering, Chiranjeevi said he was deeply moved by the plight of weavers and vowed to work for the improvement of their living standards.
"I am told over 400 poor weavers have committed suicide in the last ten years. The successive governments have failed to address their problems", he said adding that his "Praja Rajyam" party would strive for their welfare.

Chiranjeevi meets weavers in first public appearance

Hyderabad: In his first public appearance after launching the Praja Rajyam last month, Telugu superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi on Saturday met weavers and their families in an Andhra Pradesh district and promised to solve their problems if his party was voted to power.
Chiru’s first defeat from film fraternity
His surprise visit to the handloom weaving centre in Sircilla town in Karimnagar was significant as it has witnessed a spate of suicides by weavers during last few years. As many as 400 weavers committed suicide in the town during last one decade.
Chiranjeevi described as heart-rending the plight of weavers and said paying compensation to their families was not a solution to their problems. He promised to ensure that weavers get the work to feed their families.
"Gandhiji had once said that handloom weaving will usher in a revolution but today it is unfortunate that weavers are forced to end their lives," he said, adding that Sircilla had become synonymous with suicides.
The actor promised that if voted to power his party would ensure that weavers from Sircilla don't have to migrate to other states and other countries for jobs.
